Dr. Dre and Brisbane’s Monster Cable started a trend in 2008 with a new line of the rap star’s designer headphones.

Sunday night at a press preview at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show here in Las Vegas, the son of the late Bob Marley was on hand to promote a line of headphones and speaker systems that are supposed to embody the “earth-friendly” message and life of the late reggae legend.

But Rohan Marley said the House of Marley wasn’t just trying to cash in on his father’s enduring fame, but rather to keep his message alive.

“We don’t fall into the celebrity movement, we’re more in the sustainability movement,” he said. “This is what I interpret my father’s message as, the ideals and responsibilities of life and how we see the earth.”

One of the products coming out later this year is the Bag of Rhythm, a $349 portable iPod and iPhone speaker system the company says is made from sustainable wood and cotton. The company also plans to sell earphones made with recycled plastic or covered in “earth-friendly fabric.”

Five percent of the House of Marley’s profits go to 1Love.org, a non-profit group supported by the Marley family that helps raise funds for various causes, such as building a school in Uganda or buying musical instruments for disadvantaged schools.

“There’s nothing wrong with being an innovator,” Rohan Marley said. “But how do you innovate, are you just destroying the place or are you protecting the place?”

A company spokesman said the House of Marley, which launched last year, has embarked on a “grassroots” effort to get the products sold in regular consumer electronics retailers, along with surf-and-skate clothier Billabong. Oh, and they’ve also been hitting head shops in Southern California to get them to sell House of Marley electronics.

Perhaps Dr. Dre could learn something from the House of Marley. He’s come under fire from the animal rights group PETA for collaborating with Oscar De La Renta on a $695 special edition pair of headphones lined with silver fox fur.

Later this week at CES, rap star 50 Cent is scheduled to promote a new wireless headphone made by his company, SMS Audio.

Milkshake has posted an article on the motivating, and beautiful, line of Count Me Healthy bracelets.

Chelsea Charles was in college when the big idea hit: wouldn’t it be great to track daily goals on a beautiful bracelet instead of carrying a journal around? And just like that, Count Me Healthy Jewelry was born.

Each gorgeous bracelet features 12 movable beads that are slid from one side to the other to keep track of goals. Chelsea used her first prototype to count daily veggie and fruit servings. She now counts daily glasses of water, sweetener packets and workouts per week.

There are a bunch of different styles and most are available in sterling silver, gold, and rose gold. Our two favorite bangles… Counting for a Cause and Helping Hearts as 50% of their profits go to charities supporting breast cancer and heart disease in women.

We are enamored with the idea of these bracelets and decided to challenge each other to see if we could stick to the plan. Three of us here at Milkshake are now wearing a bracelet and tracking our goals.

Meet our Counters:
Amy: Milkshake’s CEO, mother of five teenagers, will use her bracelet to count the days she can go without indulging in her addictive sugar habit. Her goal is to avoid sugar at every meal –moving a bead over each time she accomplishes this feat.

Avi: Milkshake’s VP of sales and business development is wearing a macho bracelet and counting the times he lends a helping hand to someone without being asked. His goal is 6 per week.
Tracey: Milkshake writer, new mom of baby boy Kai, will use her bangle to count weekly workouts. She’s aiming for five a week.

Good luck and as Chelsea says, keep counting!

By Alan Wolf — TWICE, 12/29/2011
Seattle – The Kindle Fire, iPod Touch and Samsung’s Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch smartphone were among Amazon.com’s top-selling CE products of 2011.

The list, compiled by the nation’s fourth-largest CE retailer exclusively for TWICE, serves as a best-seller barometer for the industry given the breadth of Amazon’s CE assortment.

Leading the PC and tablet category was the company’s proprietary Kindle Fire tablet. The $199 device became the best-selling product of all soon after its introduction 13 weeks ago, while its e-reader siblings, the Kindle Touch and basic Kindle, were Amazon’s second and third best-selling products of the holiday season, with Kindle devices cumulatively selling at a rate of more than 1 million SKUs per week throughout December, the company said.

Amazon’s second best-selling tablet of the year was the Hewlett-Packard Touchpad, followed by the Asus Eee Pad Transformer.

In home electronics, the year-end list was led by three streaming media players: Apple TV and two 1080p Roku models.

In wireless, Samsung’s Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G Android phone for Sprint led the pack, followed by Motorola’s Droid Razr 4G Android phone for Verizon Wireless, although the order was reversed during the holiday selling season.

In digital imaging, the No. 1 best-seller of the year was Canon’s PowerShot Elph 300 HS 12.3-megapixel digital camera, followed by the Flip UltraHD video camera and Canon’s PowerShot S95 10-megapixel digital camera.

Within the portable electronics category, Apple’s fourth-generation iPod Touch was No. 1, followed by the Garmin Nuvi 1400 series and the sixth-generation iPod Nano.

In other Amazon news, the company said its third-party marketplace sellers enjoyed record growth over the holiday season, with the number of sellers exceeding $5,000 in sales, increasing 44 percent year over year. For all of 2011, businesses on Amazon sold hundreds of millions of units worth billions of dollars worldwide, the company said.

The list of Amazon.com’s 2011 CE best-sellers follows:

Home Electronics
1. Apple TV MC572LL/A

Vickie Gardner, co-owner of Alpen Optics, says, “I know how much being in the outdoors hunting and fishing means to me, and I knew that our returning female veterans would benefit from these activities as well. After spending time with the three special women during their first turkey hunting experience, I can say without a doubt that the hunt was healing and uplifting for not only them but everyone involved.”

Veterans Leslie Smith, Kate Calahan and Cheri Arnold all suffer from debilitating injuries, but say that hunting and spending time in the outdoors provides them with a sense of empowerment and self-assurance that strengthens their spirits.

The participants enjoyed two days of hunting and fishing on the beautiful 8000-acre property owned by Mississippi Commissioner Billy DeViney; and two of the ladies ended up taking a bird.

After harvesting her first ever turkey, Smith, an amputee who’s partially blind, said, “Hunting and taking this bird made me feel confident and powerful. I feel if I can do this, I can do anything.”

Mississippi” to get the job done.
“I began hunting a couple of years ago with the Paralyzed Veterans of America Organization,” Calahan says. “I realized through hunting that I don’t have to be stuck inside. I can do things. It’s a great feeling.”

Arnold, an incomplete quadriplegic, says hunting has opened up another world for her. Although she didn’t get a bird, Arnold says, “I was thrilled to witness Leslie and Kate’s excitement at getting a bird.”

Arnold was the only lady to catch a fish during their afternoon fishing trips for bream and bass.

Gardner says, “The 2nd Celebration Hunt was a life changing experience for all of us. I look forward to future hunts and to meeting more remarkable women who’ve given so much of themselves to protect the freedom that we often take for granted.”

Overall, none of the cameras in this group are disappointing, but as you’ll know from looking through this review, some are definitely stronger than others in key respects. If you plan to spend a significant amount of time underwater, or in other types of adverse conditions, the Panasonic TS3 is without a doubt the strongest performer in this group. It is one of the toughest cameras in this group, but crucially, it is also one of the best. We love its chunky controls, simple menu, and excellent still and video image quality.

Source: iPhoneLife

Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer born c. 1480, and along with his crew were the first Europeans to enter the Pacific Ocean. They were also the first to successfully circumnavigate the globe. It is because of his reputation in history, that his name is put on the modern day version of compasses and astrolabes that he might have used.

The first RoadMate app was a god-send for iPod Touch (with the Magellan Car Kit) and the iPhone itself. It, hands down blew away the competition, including free and premium apps. It is hard to believe, but YES, they did one-up themselves with this upgrade. Before going into the review, the one caveat is; iPhone 3G & iPod touch 2nd gen are not supported. Users must upgrade to iOS 4.0 to use the latest v2.0 app. For purposes of this review, Testing was done on an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.1.

Before going in to how good this app is at not getting you lost, or better yet, getting you un-lost, let’s look at the upgrades built-in to this new wizard of navigation.

The YELP app is now Integrated within the RoadMate app which opens up a whole new way to be entertained, where ever you are. You can easily search for venues and destinations, browse ratings, and decide where to go. Then you simply hit “Go” right from the app

Google Local Search is also integrated so you can find out where you’d like to go using real-time Google Local search. Then route to your searched location with a tap of the GO button.

The interface was redesigned for when you’re on-the-road. It incorporates a collapsible dashboard creating screen sizing that makes it easy for you to view while routing. Also, you can personalize your dashboard icons and view your arrival time, distance, and speed all at once.

The last of the latest and greatest is the inclusion of Lifetime Maps. You will never miss a beat or a turn with this great feature

Over the course of about a week and close to 1000 miles it was put through the paces of various routes; inner city, back roads, highways, etc. The first test is one that I put any GPS Product through is to get me home. There is a route that I know to be the fastest route. A GPS device with TeleAtlas maps will not take me that route. For whatever the reason, Magellan is the only NAVTEQ powered device that takes me on that route. To this day, with more than a dozen gps packages or devices tested, NO ONE BUT Magellan has been able to do that.

Boston is known for having the worst (next to NYC) drivers in the country, as well as some of the worst traffic. If you can handle Storrow Drive during Red Sox/Yankees game, you can handle it all. With lifetime traffic, Magellan will get you through it. It immediately picked up traffic issues and gave me choices on how to avoid it.The choices posed to me were other highways, back roads, etc., and did infact keep me moving.

The YELP plus Google integration is a significant feature. Lets say you want to find a quick fast food restaurant, or even a rest stop, well you can do just that with either integrated API and then simply hit the “GO” to get you there in moments. This is also helpful if your emergency fuel light is blinking and are in dire need of gas or other fuel products.

The display improvements are meant for your ease of use and seem to lower the distraction level when listening or quickly glancing over at the map. It is truly a solution with the driver in mind.

Going with the now industry standard, Magellan has also included LIFETIME MAP upgrades in this version, so you will never be without the right set of directions where ever you are or are going.

Again, Magellan has committed to the customer that they are topping the industry for a reason.
